Owner, Manager, Coach
Linda Young opened Northshore Gymnastics 19 years ago and currently serves as the owner, manager and competitive gymnastics coach. Linda has over 35 years experience as a gymnastics coach, coaching both recreationally and competitively. She competed herself, beginning at the age of 4, and continuing throughout her first year at the University of Washington. In addition to her work in the gym, Linda holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology (Cal State Fullerton), a Masters degree in Psychology (University of Washington) and a teaching certificate from Seattle Pacific University. She taught both preschool and in the public schools for twelve years before turning full-time to gymnastics. Linda continues to have a passion for the sport and enjoys watching kids develop physically and emotionally, while having fun and staying active. She considers it a privilege to witness the sense of accomplishment children have when learning skills, the joy kids have when entering the gym, and the pride parents have when their children succeed. In her free time, Linda likes to spend time with her children, MacKenzie and Kirby, granddaughters Marleigh and Baylor, watch sports (Go Hawks, Huskies and Mariners!), read, and exercise.
Recreational and Head Team Coach, Front Desk Receptionist
Courtney McBroom has been coaching at Northshore for 11 years, teaching everything from preschool classes to competitive teams. Courtney, a graduate of the University of Washington, was a competitive gymnast for 9 years and was a member of the Hot Dogs competitive jump rope team for 9 years. She enjoys coaching because she loves the challenge gymnastics represents – she loves watching kids conquer their fears and master skills that few people can do. This year Courtney is coaching competitive teams.
A 2010 graduate of Bothell High School, Michael currently attends the University of Washington (majoring in biology), Michael Ritchie has over 9 years of gymnastics experience. He has been part of the competitive and noncompetitive sides of gymnastics, having taken both recreational classes as well as competing on the trampoline team at Northshore. Michael enjoys working at Northshore because he likes to see the fun that the kids have while they are in the gym. This year Michael will be coaching boys recreational and tramp/tumbling classes.
Recreational and Team Coach
Sandra Wolff is another coach who came to Northshore because of her daughter Jaci's involvement in the sport. After competing for many years at Northshore, Jaci only recently moved to cheerleading, but Sandra remains! Sandra has been involved with children for over 22 years, as a mother of 3, a preschool teacher and a coach. She stays active by playing softball and training in taekwondo. Sandra loves coaching because she enjoys helping kids work through their challenges and eventually succeed. She loves to see a child’s happy face after hearing praise for a job well done! Sandra is the head coach of the level 2 & 3 teams.
Jen returns to Northshore Gymnastics after taking a 7-year break to spend more time with her family. Her son, Joshua, is studying video production at Lake Washington Technical College, and her daughter, Dana, is a senior at Glacier Peak High School. Jen graduated from the University of Washington in 1993, after attending Redmond High School, where she lettered in gymnastics for 3 years. Jen began coaching gymnastics and dance at the ago of 14, and has coached competitive gymnastics since 1991. She has coached numerous State Championship Teams and Individual/All-Around Champions at the State and Regional levels. In 2002 and 2007 Jen was named the Washington State Compulsory Coach of the Year. Throughout the years, Jen has taught clinics and sat as a member of the Washington State Board as the Compulsory Representative. In her free time, Jen enjoys rowing - She is currently the 3 time defending Northwest Masters Regional 1x and 2x champion. This year Jen will be coaching the competitive teams.
Recreational Coach, Front Desk Manager
Rochelle Waller has been a part of Northshore Gymnastics for over 10 years - first with her daughter in the recreational and team program, then with her son who has attended classes since he was 11 months old. She has worked for Northshore Gymnastics for 5 years as the front desk manager, and coach (Parent Tot, Preschool, Trampoline/Tumbling, parents night outs and camps). Her love for kids and working with each child to better them both in gymnastics and in their confidence in all they do, is her favorite parts of coaching. Rochelle has also instructed for the Northshore Y, and volunteered in many of their activities with her children. In her off time she enjoys outdoor activities with her friends and family.
Dan has been coaching gymnastics for over 28 years - in both the recreational field and competitive levels. He loves coaching gymnastics because he enjoys helping kids overcome their fears. He has 2 children, MacKenzie and Kirby, as well as 2 grandaughters: Marleigh and Baylor. In his free time Dan enjoys gardening, painting and reading. This year at Northshore Dan will be coaching competitive team, levels 3-9.
Recreational Coach and Front Desk Receptionist
Sarah McElrath, the matriarch of the McElrath family, has been working at Northshore for the last 7 years. The mother of 5 children – Charles, Kylie, Kaitlyn, Kathryn and Kellee, Sarah has been coaching and administrating the tramp/tumbling team for the last 5 years, as well as coaching preschool classes and working the front desk. In addition to being USAG certified, Sarah has attended state clinics for both trampoline and gymnastics. Sarah will work the front desk and coach preschool, gymnastics and tramp/tumbling classes.
Trampoline Team Coach
Kerry has been in the gym since she was 6 years old, taking a variety of classes. She participated in competitive trampoline and tumbling for 6 years, working her way up to level 9. Kerry graduated from the University of Washington, majoring in psychology and sociology, with a minor in human rights. Kerry is in her 5th year of coaching at Northshore, and will be coaching the trampoline team.
Recreational and Xcel Team Coach
Nick Metzgar has been coaching at NGC for 3 years. He came to us from Spokane, where he graduated from Riverside High School. Nick is a former gymnast, who transferred his knowledge to coaching gymnastics while in high school. He has 6 years of coaching experience, working at Byers Gymnastics in Northern California and Dynamic Gymnastics in Spokane, where he taught recreational classes. We are happy to have Nick join the Northshore staff – he will be a big asset with both his passion for the sport and love of teaching.
Christy Ely has worked with children and youth in numerous settings. She is a certified elementary school teacher, with 8 years of classroom experience. Christy studied ballet and jazz, but switched to cheerleading in high school and she eventually joined the UW Husky Cheer Squad. Christy has taught dance, coached cheerleading, and has been instructing at Northshore Gymnastics for 5 years. She has admired the sport her entire life, and enjoys being part of the Northshore staff.In her free time Christy likes to garden, follow UW football, bake, read and spend time with her family, including her 3 daughters Allyson, Camryn, and Katelyn, who all are involved in gymnastics. This year Christy will be teaching preschool and girl's gymnastics classes.
