Classes Offered at Northshore Gymnastics

Girl’s gymnastics Level 1-3

All three levels use gymnastics skills and progression as prescribed by USA Gymnastics. Each gymnast will receive a skill chart to monitor their progression in a level. Each session the gymnasts will be assessed and given stickers to put on their chart showing skill proficiency. This aid provides great feedback and positive reinforcement for the gymnast and parents as they progress through skills. Coaches will inform the parents when a gymnast is ready to move up a level. Northshore Gymnastics features the latest in gymnastics equipment and training aids to ensure positive and progressive learning experiences at all levels.

Girl’s Level 1 is a beginner class for girls ages 5-10 years of age. This 1 hour class will introduce the gymnasts to 5 different pieces of apparatus-bars, beam, vault, tumbling and trampoline. This class is designed to build strength, flexibility, and sound basics in a safe and positive manner. Typical skills worked on in this class include:

-Bars-casts, pullovers, back hip circles

-Beam-locomotor skills

-Tumbling-forward rolls, backward rolls, cartwheels, bridge, handstand

-Trampoline-jumps and turns

-Vault-proper run form, hurdle, run-hurdle-jumps

Girl’s Level 2 is an intermediate class for girls ages 5-10 years of age. This 1 hour class builds on skill learned in Girl’s Level 1. Coaches recommendation or 1 year of Girl’s Level 1 is required for participation in this class.

-Typical skills worked on in this class include:

-Bars-single leg uprise, pullover from 2 feet, straddle sole circle dismount, single leg cut

-Beam-partial handstand, dismounts, kicks,

-Tumbling-bridge kick over, back bend, handstand roll, hurdle to cartwheel

-Trampoline-jumps, turns, seat drop, 4 point drop, combinations

-Vault-run hurdle dive roll on mat, run hurdle squat onto stacked mats,

Girl’s Level 3 is an advanced class for girl’s ages 5-12. This 1.5 hour class builds on skills mastered in Girl’s Level 2. Many gymnasts at this level take 2 classes per week (not required). Coaches recommendation is required for this class.

Typical skills worked on in this class:

-Bars-pullover on high bar, stride circle, glide swings, single leg cutforwards and backwards

-Beam-tuck sit, V-sit whip to squat, pivot turns, split jump, side handstand (low beam)

-Tumbling-roundoff, hurdle roundoff, back bend kick over, backhandspring, back bend to stand

-Trampoline-combinations of 3 or more moves, flips

-Vault-run-hurdle-dive roll, run-hurdle-jump to handstand, under arm swing hurdles

Karate/Gymnastics-

Boys and girls ages 4-6 will be exposed to the basic concepts of karate AND gymnastics. This unique class is a classic combination of self-discipline, coordination, agility, and lots of fun! The one hour class starts with circle time, emphasizing locomotor skills, stretching and beginning gymnastics positions and shapes. During the karate section of the class, the youngsters will work on basic punch, kicks and blocks. The gymnastics portion of the class includes obstacle courses, trampolines, inflatibles, junior rock wall, as well as use of the boys and girls gymnastics apparatus.

Boys Gymnastics/Trampoline-

Exclusively for boys!

Boys gymnastics/trampoline 4-6 During the gymnastics portion of the class, the youngsters will be introduced to the rings, high bar, tumbling, and vault as well as obstacle courses, junior rock wall and the loose foam pit. In addition, use of our 5 trampolines will be used for jumping and flipping fun. Safety and strong progressive instruction is always emphasized during trampoline use

Boys Gymnastics/trampoline 7-12 Boys will be exposed to 4 Olympic gymnastics events-high bar, pommel horse, parallel bars and ring as well as tumbling and our 5 trampolines. All boys will receive a skill chart to monitor individual achievement in skill, strength and flexibility acquisition. Typical skills worked on in class include:

-Vault-run for speed, spring board work

-High bar-pullover, casts, tap swing, swing ½ turn, swing backward dismount

-Parallel bars-support walk down bars, L hold, swing straddle, under arm swings

-Tumbling-forward roll, backward roll, cartwheel, kick to handstand

-Rings-skin the cat hold, swings, pullups

-Pommel horse/mushroom-walk around circle, leg cut, leg swings

-Trampolines-jumps, turns, flips

Trampoline/Tumbling-

This class is designed for those who love to jump and flip! The class uses USA Gymnastics guidelines and curriculum for proper progressions and safety during the use of our 5 trampolines-2 regulation above ground, 1 tumble trak, 1 inground, and 1 double mini tramp. During the tumbling portion of the class the students will start with rolling, handstands and cartwheels and progress to front handsprings, back handsprings and flips. The 11-18 year old class is great for cheerleaders, ski boarders, and skate boarders who want to learn the correct techniques and body positions for their sport.

Junior/Senior High

Our junior/senior high classes are run in 2 formats-

On Tuesdays and Thursdays we offer a girl’s class for beginners-high school competitors. Individualized instruction is provided-no experience necessary! Gymnasts can work on the bars, beams, vault, tumbling floors, and trampolines. The class rotates to specific areas of the gym, however participation on all apparatus in not required.

On Tuesdays, we offer co-ed supervised, but not structured junior/senior high class. This is a great way to experience gymnastics and the use of our equipment in an “open gym” setting.

Indoor Playground-

Every Friday from 11:30AM - 12:30PM

Indoor playground gives youngsters ages 9 months-5 years old the chance to experience our gym in a supervised but not structured manner. The hour of open fun includes-use of our inflatables, trampolines, junior rock wall, loose foam pit, preschool obstacle courses, balls, hoops, bubbles and more! We provide a coach, however adult supervision is required. Indoor playground is offered on a drop in basis.

Cost: $6.00 for currently enrolled students $8.00 for guests
